Blue Origin said the 32,000-square-foot station will provide

Blue Origin, a space tourism company owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, launches a commercial space station. Officials said they expect the station, dubbed 'Orbital Reef', to be operational by the end of this decade. The promotional material released by the company claims that the station will be a 'mixed use business park' in space and will host 10 people. The company will partner with Sierra Space and Boeing to build the outpost.

Blue Origin said the 32,000-square-foot station will provide customers with an ideal location for 'film making' or 'advanced research on microgravity', which will include a 'space hotel'. The cost is estimated, but Bezos is expected to spend $ 1 billion on the project. The announcement comes as NASA seeks proposals to replace the 20-year-old International Space Station (ISS). Although funding for the station has been guaranteed until at least 2030, the outpost needs repairs.
Russian officials have previously warned that astronauts will leave the station by 2025, fearing obsolete equipment could be a problem. In response, NASA announced earlier this year plans to pay $ 400 million in private contracts to space companies. However, there is likely to be stiff competition for funding. Earlier this week, Nanorax, Voyager Space and Lockheed Martin announced plans to launch a space station into low orbit by 2027.
